Fatsia japonica (Japanese Aralia)
Fatsia prefers a position with some shade where it seems to bring out more distinct colouring in the leaves. This picture was taken late September 2016 as the fog started to lift.
In its current position it gets shade with little direct sunlight. I find direct sunlight bleaches the leaves, at least this has been my experience.
This is a great evergreen plant to add that tropical look to your garden with its large leaves. You will find that frosts will burn any new growth that hasn't had a chance to acclimatise but the older mature foliage can stand pretty heavy frosts.
I've also found that Fatsia japonica 'Spiders web' is just as hardy and looks better than the variegated version of Fatsia.
